ABOUT US
Welcome, my name is Erin McDonald and I'm the owner and operator for Sunflower Garden Daycare. Sunflower Garden Daycare is a licensed Family daycare with Vancouver Coastal Health and has been in operation since 2013. It has been my great privilege to serve our community in providing more than a quality daycare, but a second home and a place of belonging, where all are welcome. Being a licensed family daycare also brings connection to my own family, where we hold to our core values....to know we are happy, healthy, strong and loved, with a true sense of belonging. And those values are shared in our family daycare.

We would like to welcome Haideh Nouri, our pedagogist from the Early Childhood Pedagogy Network or ECPN. Please visit the links below for ECPN website and The Early Learning Framework from the BC Government.
OUR LIVING INQUIRY
Living Well Together
OUTDOOR PLAY
At Sunflower Garden Daycare we reconnect with the land and space every day, and explore how we can 'be' together. How can we live well, together.   We visit with our local Windsor Park and have grown together as the park and forest have changed, making a rich environment for constant inquiry.  Be it seasonal or man made changes. Â
"Children and educators consider what it means to be in relationship with land, including the stories of land that are told and the stories that have been silenced."
Elf (Early learning framework) 2019, p.75
EXPLORING MATERIALS
At Sunflower Garden daycare, children are given a wide variety of materials to explore. Â Clay, paints, blocks and charcoal drawing are always invited into the dedicated studio space within the daycare.
"Materials live in the world in multiple ways. Â They can evoke memories, narrate stories, invite actions, and communicate meaning."
"Materials are not immutable, passive, or lifeless until the moment we do something to them; they participate in our early childhood projects. They live, speak, gesture, and call to us."
Kind, S.(2014).Material encounters. International Journal of Child, Youth and Family  Studies, p.865.
IMAGINATIVE PLAY
Imagination is explored with nature, light, colours and silks. Â Ideas are shared and stories are made, expanding each others ideas.
OUR MISSION
How can we live well together
At Sunflower Garden Daycare, our mission consists of providing a home away from home, and a place and space of belonging.  Our Daycare offers space for growth and open ended inquiries that are child lead, with play and inquiry based curriculum.  We share a living curriculum that is rich and ever dynamic.  We sit with the inquiry, how can we live well, together.  Through play and connection children become confident knowing they have a place where they belong, together.
